From Retro Vision to Modern Reality - Designing Dynamic Leap's Website
Dynamic Leap is a venture capital firm focused on early-stage investments in disruptive technologies.
The Dynamic Leap team, including growth investor Hansell Shook, contacted Veza Digital, needing a website that reflected its brand to attract potential investors. Their vision included a retro aesthetic reminiscent of films like the 80s Dune, which presented a unique design challenge.
This wasn't just about creating a website; it was about creating a digital experience that captured the essence of their innovative approach and speaks to their target audience.
Challenge
Dynamic Leap is a venture capital firm investing at the early stage in disruptive technologies. The team needed a site that reflected the brand well enough to attract potential investors, and they arrived with a specific aesthetic in mind: retro sci-fi, in the register of the 1980s Dune.
That vision was the difficulty. It was compelling but not clearly defined, which drove multiple rounds of revision on both the website and the logo. Communicating an abstract reference to the design team, and holding it against UI and UX fundamentals rather than letting style win outright, took careful navigation.
Approach
The work ran as a collaboration rather than a handoff, with consistent communication and regular feedback sessions as the design was refined toward a clear, intuitive structure.
For the logo, the team presented multiple concepts, each reading the D and L in Dynamic Leap differently, and narrowed to the mark that matched the brand.
The site design went through numerous iterations, incorporating the visual references while keeping information architecture and navigation legible. Typography and overall look were curated to hold the retro sci-fi feeling and still read as modern and forward-looking.
