Reimaging the Unity Charity Website to Empower & Inspire
Unity Charity is a Canadian non-profit organization that empowers and inspires young people through Hip Hop culture. Its mission is to help youth facing challenges such as poverty, violence, and mental health issues by providing free programs and workshops using Hip Hop as a personal and social development tool.
These programs encompass breakdancing, beatboxing, spoken word poetry, graffiti art, and other creative outlets, enabling young people to express themselves and build confidence.
Beyond youth programs, Unity Charity also provides employment and development opportunities to young emerging artists passionate about Hip Hop. These opportunities include mentorship, performance platforms, and networking events that connect artists with industry professionals and showcase their work.
The Unity Charity team partnered with Veza Digital to revamp their outdated website with optimal user experience. They wanted a website that effectively communicates their mission, showcases their programs and services, and engages their audience.
Despite Veza's collective experience and skills, the project encountered several challenges. Limited resources and a tight budget hindered the allocation of additional developers when one left mid-project, significantly increasing the workload and impacting deadlines.
However, the team overcame this by effectively utilizing the skills of other Veza members, ensuring project continuity.
Another significant hurdle was the site's complexity. Most sites were built using CMSs, even for static information, increasing development intricacy.
The primary objective was to create a seamless user experience with fluid and easily navigable content. The developers achieved this by employing a combination of VWs, VHs, and EMs.
The CMS managed diverse content types, including blogs, music, videos, tabs, sliders, teams, boards of directors, artists, programs, events, jobs, filters, and statistics.
Sticky Secondary Navigations enhanced navigation, SwiperJS helped complex sliders, and AnimaJS added engaging text animations.
Multi-step forms using Try Formly simplified form completion. Team members and the board of directors utilized CMS filters and loads to filter and load more items. CMS Tabs were created and combined with CMS items. Number Count was employed for dynamic count-up animations.
